Silicon nitrides (Si3N4) are a range of advanced engineering ceramics characterised by high strength, toughness and hardness and excellent chemical and thermal stability. Silicon nitride is a very important engineering ceramic which is available in characteristics, include high strength, toughness and hardness, excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance to many acids and alkalis and outstanding thermal shock resistance.
Silicon Nitride is generally not wetted by molten metals, making it the ideal choice for welding-jig fixtures and location pins. Its high hardness gives exceptional wear resistance for bearings. Other applications include liners for induction heating equipment, plus any ceramic components that are subjected to impact shocks.
Characteristics:
1. High strength
Strength of silicon nitride is high, flexure strength is up to 900MPa, also the fracture toughness is high, so it can be used for application with heavy load and mechanical shock.
2. Corrosion resistance
Silicon nitride material has good corrosion resistance, it does not react with various acids, alkalis, salt or other chemical agents, without the risk of failure caused by corrosion.
3. High temperature resistance
The normal use temperature of the silicon nitride ceramic can reach higher than 1100℃, available for the requirements of high temperature environment.
4. Good wear resistance
Silicon carbide material has high hardness, which is up to 16GPa, so the wear resistance is very good and service life is long.
5. Good thermal shock resistance
Silicon carbide has small thermal expansion, high termal conductivity, thermal shock resistance is very good, up to 550℃.
